Combi: use several tracks together

Edit setlist button → Combi

A combination groups several tracks. Each track can have its own sound assignment and settings.

Combi tracks
Original screenshot · iPad A16. The screenshot shows the first eight tracks. Move the track area sideways to reach additional tracks.
Combi workflow
Diagram · Track settings belong to the combination of the selected setlist button.
  1. Check that you are editing the correct setlist button.
  2. Open Combi and choose the track you want to configure.
  3. Choose the sound source. Use Cavit Semai for internal sample playback.
  4. Check the track state. Play indicates an active track; Mute indicates a muted track. Tap to switch between them.
  5. Set Volume to an appropriate level.
  6. Test the combination via MIDI and, if needed, with Transmit.
  7. Tap Save and confirm Saving Combination.

Transmit and Autotransmit

Transmit sends the MIDI settings configured for the combination. Autotransmit toggles automatic transmission. Sending MIDI settings does not replace saving the combination.

Choose the right import method

ButtonWhen to use it
Import WAVFor your own WAV recordings. Import in the zone editor also supports automatic mapping; check the resulting assignments.
Import KMP FileFor individual Korg KMP files. Their associated KSF files must be accessible.
Import KMP FolderFor a folder containing KMP files and associated KSF subfolders. Especially useful when the file provider limits subfolder access during single-file import.
  1. Tap the appropriate import button.
  2. Select the file or complete folder in the file picker.
  3. Read any prompts and wait for the import message. The app shows progress for larger folders.
  4. Check the resulting zones. Importing a folder can create several multisamples.
  5. Save your edits. If folder import has already saved automatically, check the completion message and the entries in Sample Manager.

Key Low, Key High and Root Key

Key Low is the lowest key in a zone; Key High is the highest. Root Key is the original pitch of the recording. The sampler uses it to calculate pitch changes for other keys. An incorrect Root Key can put the sound out of tune.

Set the ranges to cover the keys you need. Use overlaps intentionally only when you want several zones to sound together. Also check the velocity range if a zone should respond only to certain playing strengths.

Audition the sample and loop

  1. Open the individual zone in Edit Sample Zone.
  2. Use Play Sample to hear the recording and Stop to end playback.
  3. Enable Activate Loop if needed.
  4. Set Loop Start and Loop End. The end must come after the start.
  5. Use Auto-Loop-Finder as a starting point if needed, then audition the result.
  6. For rhythmic recordings, Analyze BPM and loop-length settings are also available.
  7. Tap Save and save the enclosing editing stages as well.

Practical tip: A loop should sound as smooth as possible when moving from its end back to its start. If you hear a click, move the boundaries and test again. Tap −/+ once for a single change; press and hold for continuous changes.08 · SAMPLE SETS

Export or import a Cavit Semai sample set

App Settings → Sample Manager → Export / Import Cavit Semai Set

Sample-set transfer
Diagram · Sample sets contain sample content. Setlist files are covered separately in Chapter 10.

Export your own multisamples

  1. Select the user multisamples you want to export in Sample Manager.
  2. Tap Export Cavit Semai Set.
  3. The Export Selected Sounds dialog provides Target Device Import ID (optional).
  4. For an export intended for another device, use that device’s import ID. Copy Device ID copies the current device’s import ID; Paste Device ID inserts a copied destination ID.
  5. Check the displayed export allowance. An export for a specified destination device requires an available allowance. If needed, press and hold Paste Device ID for about 0.8 seconds to open the multisample export-code dialog.
  6. Tap Export and choose the offered location or file-output method.

Sample-set files use the extension .cavitsemai. Without selected exportable multisamples, the app reports Nothing selected or Nothing to export.

Import a sample set

  1. Tap Import Cavit Semai Set.
  2. Choose the appropriate .cavitsemai file.
  3. For name or file conflicts, the app displays Import conflicts.
  4. Choose Import Conflicts as Copies to keep existing content and import conflicts as copies. Use Overwrite User Conflicts only when you intend to replace existing user content. Cancel stops the import.
  5. Wait for completion and check the new multisamples in the list.

Device binding and protection: A device-bound set must match its intended destination device. Factory sounds are not overwritten in a conflict. Protected purchased multisamples cannot be exported.09 · TRACK SOUND

Cavit Semai · Sound Edit

Combi → Track → Cavit Semai → Edit Sound

This editor changes the sound of the selected Combi track. It is separate from Sample Manager: here you adjust playback and sound rather than manage the underlying sample files.

Sound Editor overview
Diagram · Layer parameters apply to the selected layer. FX uses a shared track effects bus; Pitch Bend is explicitly labeled for all layers.

The six tabs in original screenshots

These pictures show the interface, not recommended sound settings. A layer labeled No Multisample needs a sound assignment before it can play samples.

Velocity/Range

Select a multisample and enable the layer. Velocity Low/High limit the velocity range; Volume controls layer volume. Low/High in Key Range limit the keys. On the keyboard, drag from the first to the last desired note.

Velocity/Range
Original screenshot · iPad A16. A layer with no multisample assigned.

Tuning

Octave shifts the sound in octaves, Transpose in semitones, and Fine Tune provides fine adjustment. Voice Mode sets the available playing behavior, such as Mono. Legato connects successive notes; Crossfade and Speed adjust the transition and its speed. Portamento creates a glide in pitch. Left and right Pitch Bend values apply to all layers.

Tuning

LFO

Enable LFO and choose Target, Controller and Waveform. Rate sets the speed, Depth the modulation amount, and Phase the starting phase. Velocity Low/High specify the velocity range. With MIDI Clock Sync enabled, speed follows incoming MIDI clock and Division.

LFO

Amp · ADSR

Enable ADSR. Attack sets the time to reach full volume, Decay the subsequent drop, Sustain the held volume level, and Release the fade after releasing the key. Drag the knobs vertically. Double-tap to reset a value. The curve shows the resulting volume envelope.

Amp · ADSR

FX · Acoustic Model

The FX section processes this track’s layers together. Enable the effects you want to use. Acoustic Model provides model groups and presets, with controls for adjusting the model. Reverb, Delay and Distortion have their own switches and Mix controls. Saving model presets and saving the track sound are separate operations.

FX · Acoustic Model

Edit layers

  1. Check Combi Track at the top to ensure you are editing the correct track.
  2. Select the desired layer.
  3. Use + Layer to add a layer. Choose its multisample and adjust its settings.
  4. Use Delete to remove the selected layer after confirmation.

The green or gray state indicator shows whether a layer is enabled. With several layers, always check which one is selected.

TabWhat you adjustTypical example
Velocity/RangeMultisample assignment, velocity response and active key range.Play a layer only in the upper keyboard range or with a stronger attack.
TuningPitch, transposition and fine tuning.Shift a layer by an octave or tune it slightly.
LFOPeriodic modulation of the sound.Create regular movement and test it while playing.
AmpVolume envelope and available sample-start settings.Give the sound a softer onset or a longer release.
EQBoost or cut frequency ranges.Soften a harsh sound or add presence.
FXThe track’s shared effects.Add space or other available effects.

Change values and save

Change a parameter and play a few notes. Many sound parameters provide a live preview. Use − / + to change values step by step; press and hold for continuous changes.

The save icon in the header commits the edited track sound. Saved appears briefly and the editor stays open. The current integration also saves the track sound in the combination. If you then change other Combi settings, save the combination again.Cancel or the close icon exits editing. Unsaved live changes are reverted. Changes you have already saved remain.

Acoustic Model presets

The Acoustic Model preset section may offer Factory Presets, Model Presets and User Presets.

  • Save: Save the editable user preset.
  • Save as: Store the settings as a new user preset.
  • Rename: Rename a user preset.
  • Delete: Remove a deletable user preset.

Acoustic Model presets save the settings for that effect section. Saving the entire track sound is a separate operation. Use the save icon in the header to commit the current sound to the Combi track.

iPhone: The tab bar scrolls horizontally. Swipe it if a tab such as EQ or FX is outside the visible area. Scroll within the editor for more parameters.

iPad: The larger screen makes comparing parameters easier. Layers and tabs have the same meaning as on iPhone; additional parameters may still require scrolling.10 · SETLIST FILES

Export and import a setlist

App Settings → Export/Import

Setlist export backs up button entries and their saved combinations. Back up WAV and KSF sample files separately using sample-set export.

Replace Entire Setlist also removes existing entries that you did not select. Export your current setlist first if you want to keep it. If there is not enough free space, import stops with a message without importing any entries.

iPhone: The import selection uses a compact layout for limited height. Scroll through the list and check selected names before continuing.

iPad: Import/export also opens full screen here. Content is centered; selection and methods work the same as on iPhone.11 · MIDI

Ensemble Mode and MIDI connections

App Settings → Ensemble Mode / Midi Device Manager

Ensemble MIDI workflow
Diagram · Ensemble Mode provides MIDI connections. Choose which input each track uses in its track menu.

Ensemble Mode switches the virtual Ensemble MIDI sources on or off. The icon shows the state; a crossed-out icon indicates that the mode is off.

The sources are named Cavit Semai Ensemble High, Cavit Semai Ensemble Mid and Cavit Semai Ensemble Low. Select an available source in a Cavit Semai track’s MIDI Input menu.

  1. Connect your MIDI device. For Bluetooth MIDI, first open Bluetooth Device Manager.
  2. In Midi Device Manager, check that the required source is available.
  3. Enable Ensemble Mode if you want to use the virtual Ensemble sources.
  4. Open the Combi track and choose the desired source under Cavit Semai → MIDI Input.
  5. Check the track state and volume, then play notes within its active key range.

Ensemble Mode alone is not sufficient: the MIDI input, active track, selected sound and key range must work together. The actual processing of High, Mid and Low depends on the app settings.12 · IPHONE, IPAD AND READING
